WORKING WITH THE MODEL, JOYOUSLY AND LOOSELY
  • 5 DAYS      MARCH 17-21      SAN JOSE DEL CABO

We will start each day working rapidly, loosening up, letting the right brain, and our response to the model and materials shape the image. We will make many drawings in this gestural manner, developing a fun process that encourages direct eye to hand coordination without allowing the critical mind to interupt the flow. Then you will select some of your many starts to develop and/or refine. Demonstrations in a variety of materials, both black and white and color. This workshop is suitable for all levels. Model fee.

SAN JOSE DEL CABO

Wonderful indoor/outdoor location at private studio. We work from 9:30-12:30 leaving afternoons free to relax and enjoy this superb town on the Sea of Cortez near Baja’s southern tip, with lovely, temperate climate, beaches and water sports, great shopping and dining, golf, etc. Great variety of accommodations and air packages.

The final workshop in March coincides with the annual Fiesta San Jose. The town celebrates its patron saint bigtime with free entertainment every night, a queen and princesses, a rodeo, races, a carnival, parade, and fireworks. Great photo ops, food and crafts from all over Mexico, and the rancheros and locals out in their holiday best. Make early air and accommodations reservations for fiesta time!

LOS ZACATITOS

Workshops take place at my home and art retreat in a beautiful, lush desert, walking distance from the Sea of Cortez. We have miles of nearly deserted beautiful beaches and a bay great for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking (we have some on the beach), and, in February and March, enjoying the whales. It is 8 miles from San Jose del Cabo. Accomodations at my land and nearby range from tents, pavilions, guest rooms, to lovely houses on or near the beach. Earliest registrants have the most choices. There is still free beach camping for the self-sufficient and parking space for an RV or camper at my land.

Wednesday, July 2–Sunday, July 6:  Working with the Model, Joyously and Loosely
Mendocino Art Center

Plan a Fabulous July 4th week in Mendocino—see the parade while taking a noon break from a great figure drawing, painting, and/ or sculpture class. All levels will benefit from this gestural approach to the figure. We will make many rapid studies in the materials of our choice; sharpening our hand to eye coordination,  not allowing the critical mind to interrupt the intuitive, creative flow. Then we will choose from among our many sketches those we  wish to develop. Demonstrations in traditional, contemporary, and mixed media materials and techniques. An experimental attitude prevails.

Wednesday, August 13–Sunday, August 17: Soft Carving in Cast Stone: Sculpture that can live outside
Mendocino Art Center

Cast a cement mixture in a container to create the 'stone' you want. Carve it while it is still soft with simple hand tools. Easy, fun, anyone can do it! We will also learn to make larger, lighterweight pieces by covering an armature with a cementitious mixture. There will be opportunity to create 'stone' in a great range of color, texture, and finish.  All levels.
